How to use
Play an instrument in your backpack and wait 2 seconds between uses. Changing, fading notes appear above you and are visible to nearby players. Peacemaking, Provocation and Enticement also use your music skill.
Volantis-specific rules
Eligible living NPCs on the same map within 7 tiles can be affected, even behind walls; line of sight is not required. Below 30.0, only the musician’s notes appear: NPCs do not sleep or show Zzz. At 30.0 or higher, each eligible NPC has a separate 30% sleep chance: 2 seconds at 30–69.9, 3 seconds at 70–89.9, and 4 seconds at 90 or higher. Sleeping NPCs cannot move or attack; Zzz remains visible throughout the sleep. After waking, they are immune to sleep for 7 seconds. Players are not put to sleep. The sleep roll is separate from normal playing success. Instruments wear with use and break when their uses run out.

How do I raise it?
Active skills can be used from 0.0. Recipes and special abilities retain their own skill requirements; Teacher training is optional. Skill gain chance after a valid completed use %100; a successful gain adds 0.1 points.
- Keep an instrument such as a Drum, Lute or Tambourine in your backpack and play it. Wait at least 2 seconds between uses and watch its remaining uses.
- Peacemaking, Provocation and Enticement also perform a music check. Normal skill gain, locks and caps apply. Zzz appears only on an NPC that is actually put to sleep; it does not indicate skill gain. Below 30.0, neither sleep nor Zzz occurs.
Progress and Real Skill Value
Set the skill lock to increase. The individual skill cap is 100 and the total cap is 700; when the total is full, set another skill to decrease. Learning is rolled independently for every valid use, so gains are not guaranteed on every attempt unless the chance is 100%. Skill gain is disabled in designated safe areas.
The Skills screen shows your real skill value. Eligible skills below 30 can be trained by the Teacher; further progress comes from valid actions for that skill. A stat lock does not lock skill gain.
