Learn how self-targeted support spells, protected areas and actions that interrupt casting work together.
These support spells target you directly
Selecting one of the following spells does not open a targeting cursor; the effect applies to your own character. Normal mana, reagent, skill and casting requirements still apply. You cannot direct it at another player.
| Spell | Usage |
|---|---|
| Reactive Armor | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Agility | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Cunning | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Protection | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Strength | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Bless | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Arch Protection | Self; no targeting cursor |
| Magic Reflection | Self; no targeting cursor |
Night Sight, Heal, Cure and other targeted spells
The self-targeting rule applies only to the eight spells above. Night Sight opens a targeting cursor so you can select yourself or another character. Other targeted spells, including Heal, Cure, Greater Heal and Invisibility, still require a valid target. On this server, Arch Protection is a self-buff rather than an area group protection spell.
Area and summon spell restrictions in protected zones
Area, field and summon spells cannot be started inside a guard zone (GZ). Targeting these effects into a guard zone from outside is also prohibited; the location is checked again on completion. Examples include Fire Field, Poison Field, Energy Field, Meteor Swarm, Earthquake, Blade Spirits, Energy Vortex and elemental summons. Normal region and crime rules also apply to single-target attacks.
Chat while casting
While a spell is being prepared, player text messages cannot be sent, including normal speech, guild and party chat. The spell's own words remain visible. This rule is not a voice-chat mute option; manage voice channels from the top bar.
Starting a bandage treatment interrupts casting
- Double-clicking a bandage while preparing a spell does not interrupt it. The current spell fizzles when you select a valid target and treatment begins.
- When the bandage target opens, follow the normal treatment process.
- While treatment is in progress, you cannot begin a new spell or use a Runebook, scroll or wand.
- The casting restriction ends when treatment finishes or is cancelled. You may cast if only the cooldown before the next bandage remains.

Recall and Gate preparation
Runebook Recall normally takes four seconds and Gate takes six; their initial movement locks last one and two seconds respectively. If the start and destination are the exact same region, the first Recall adds two seconds and each subsequent one adds one, with total preparation capped at six seconds. The character’s counter resets one hour after the first valid preparation begins. Recall between different regions and Gate are unaffected by this extra delay. Travel cannot begin inside a house, and entering one during preparation causes a fizzle. Charges are used first; reagents are needed once charges run out. The end of the movement lock does not mean the spell has finished.
